Can my CitizenCard be used for voting?

As of 2023, you are required to show photo identification when voting in person in some UK elections or referendums.

You'll need photo ID to vote in:

  • UK Parliament by-elections
  • local elections in England (including councils, mayors, the Greater London Authority and parishes)
  • recall of MP petitions in England, Scotland and Wales
  • Police and Crime Commissioner elections in England and Wales
  • neighbourhood planning referendums in England
  • local authority referendums in England (including Council Tax increase referendums)

CitizenCards along with other PASS cards can be used as a valid voter ID. For more information, visit the List of identity documents accepted for voting page.

TRUSTED ID SINCE 1999

The PASS hologram on each CitizenCard is endorsed by the Home Office, Police, SIA and retailers.
