All CitizenCards bear the PASS hologram endorsed by the Home Office, the Police and the Security Industry Authority and can be verified as genuine at verify.citizencard.com or using the free PASS Card Verify app available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Additionally, all cards now feature holographic overlays on their reverses, an initiative launched in March 2023. CitizenCards protected with this overlay are much more resistant to damage and tampering.

The card reverses display alternating 'i' and shield images when moved, as well as multi-colored rings that change depending on the viewing angle. Furthermore, there is guilloche patterning covering the reverse consisting of fine lines in the full-color spectrum using refracted light and repeated outlines of word 'GENUINE' in changing colors based on viewing perspective. These features, along with the graphical design of the cards, make CitizenCards very difficult to falsify.
