The Visa Prepaid CitizenCard has been awarded the title of 'Best New Prepaid Card Product of the Year' at The Card and Payment Awards 2013 held in London on 6th February 2013.

The Card and Payment Awards - Winner 2013

The Card and Payment Awards was founded in 2006 to recognise customer service, excellence and innovation in the UK and Irish card and payment industries.

CitizenCard launched the award winning Visa Prepaid CitizenCard in July 2012, it is a combined PASS proof of age card with Visa payment functionality and the card can be used at 29 million Visa outlets worldwide and online. CitizenCard has issued over 2 million cards since 1999 and is the UK's leading proof of age card.

The Visa Prepaid CitizenCard is Europe's first proof of age/ID card with combined Visa payment functionality. The chip and PIN secured card offers those who need age verification one of the most trusted, safe and secure ways to manage their money, load, spend and earn. The card carries the Government approved PASS hologram (proof of age standard scheme) recognised as valid ID by the Home Office, the Scottish Government, the Police and Trading Standards and the card displays the Visa logo and holograms.

The Judges at The Card & Payment awards said:

The combination of a payment method with age verification is a compelling formula in its target market.

The card displays the owner's date of birth, name and colour photograph but also an ageband (12-15, 16-17, 18+ and 21+ cards) so it's easy to prove that users are young or old enough to access age-restricted goods and services. Uniquely amongst financial products in the UK the actual 16-digit card number also identifies adults from children and whether a cardholder is over or under 18, giving it a new added level of security for retailers online. The Visa Prepaid CitizenCard provides reassurance to parents because adult merchant codes have been barred from under-18 cards and will not work at age-restricted retailers, e.g. retailers serving alcohol or providing gambling services.

It's NOT a credit card and is a safe and easy way for card holders to manage money and spend safely. With no monthly or annual fees, the card is highly competitive and can be loaded free of charge with as little as £10 or as much as £5,000 by bank transfer, standing order or online banking. Users can transfer funds from one Visa Prepaid CitizenCard to another, and also take cash to any Post Office or PayPoint retailer and load the card (2-3% fees apply). The Visa Prepaid Card can be managed online, by phone or SMS.

Unlike the majority of Prepaid cards, cardholders can also earn rewards with the card by promoting the Visa Prepaid CitizenCard to friends and family through a unique referral code they can earn commission, which is paid straight onto their card. The card also hosts the LEALTA logo with allows cardholders to access hundreds of discounts.
