PASS NOT PASSPORTS
Posted by Tomasz Wiszniewski on 21 December 2016 01:38 PM

CitizenCard welcomes today’s (WEDNESDAY 21 DECEMBER 2016) launch of the campaign by Her Majesty’s Passport Office to encourage young people to leave their passport at home and to use a PASS card instead.

Andrew Chevis, Chief Executive of CitizenCard and a Board Director of PASSCO which accredits PASS card issuers, said:

“Half of all lost passports are lost in bars, clubs and pubs so we welcome the Government’s clear support for PASS cards as an affordable, easy to replace form of ID/proof of age. PASS cards are available free of charge in some parts of the UK (Scotland and a few English local authorities) and across the UK cards are available to anyone at a cost of £15 or less. Much cheaper and easier to replace than a passport.

We welcome the endorsement by the Security Industry Authority of this campaign and would urge all SIA-accredited doorstaff and security companies to spread the word.”

PASS cards are issued by a small number of accredited issuers including the largest UK-wide issuer CitizenCard. Each card displays the PASS hologram endorsed by the Home Office, police, security industry and retailers & licensees as a valid form of ID and proof of age. Immigration Minister Robert Goodwill said today:

“Young people face a higher risk of losing their passport as they often use it as a form of age verification.

A passport is a highly valuable document. If it gets lost or stolen, not only does it cost the holder money to replace it, but it can fall into the hands of criminals unless it is handed in and cancelled.

We are working with a number of stakeholders including retailers, licensed premises, police, local authorities and students, to communicate that there are better ways to prove your age, such as the PASS card.”

CitizenCard is promoting the campaign by offering PASS card applicants a CitizenCard for just £9 using a £6 discount code PASSNOTPASSPORT at https://www.citizencard.com/online-application

CitizenCard is also making available A4 and A3 copies of these posters for retailers and licensees which can be ordered by emailing passport@citizencard.com

New design for under 18 cards
Posted by Tomasz Wiszniewski on 29 July 2015 01:32 PM

CitizenCard has launched a new card design for our under 18 cards. It looks a lot like the 18+ card, but is yellow instead of blue. The new design is for two age bands: 16-17 and Under 16. All cards will now feature the date when the 16-17 cardholders turn 18 and the under 16 cardholders turn 16.

The new cards feature the PASS hologram and display the Trading Standards logo on the front. They also have a UV (ultraviolet) marking in the form of the PASS logo which runs right across the cards. The UV marks can be seen with a UV light.

The new cards are available for £10 using code NEWCARD at www.citizencard.com and existing holders of a CitizenCard can get the new card for just £5 using code NEWU18 at https://apply.citizencard.com/apply/upg

Police and doorstaff are on the cards
Posted by Tomasz Wiszniewski on 10 June 2014 03:02 PM

Home Office Minister Norman Baker today (Tuesday 10 June 2014) launched the new 18+ PASS card design that features on 18+ CitizenCards.  The new design displays the logos of the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Trading Standards Institute and the Security Industry Authority (SIA) that licenses bar and club doorstaff across the UK.

Chief Constable Adrian Lee, on behalf of ACPO, endorsed the new design and has written to fellow Chief Constables advising that if the card is refused in bars or clubs the police must investigate.  The police advise that passports should not be used as proof of age and the DVLA oppose driving licences being used for this purpose either.

Andrew Chevis, CitizenCard’s Chief Executive, welcomed the new design which applies to all 18+ PASS cards issued in England & Wales:

“The police and doorstaff are literally on the cards and every major bar and club operator has welcomed the new design.  Any adult across the UK should be able to use these cards in bars, clubs and elsewhere without any difficulty.  The new card is a fitting way to celebrate CitizenCard’s 15th Anniversary.”

The No ID, No Sale! campaign has also launched today a new retail pack that promotes the new PASS design.  The pack is available free of charge to independent retailers from www.noidnosale.com

CitizenCard is the only non-profit organisation to issue PASS cards across the UK.  It is operated by: Association of Convenience Stores, Camelot, Co-Operative, Experian, Ladbrokes and National Federation of Retail Newsagents.

The new card is available at a cost of £10 from www.citizencard.com using code NEWCARD.  Existing holders of a CitizenCard can get the new card for just £5 using code REPLACE at https://apply.citizencard.com/apply/upg .

NINS Pack promotes new CitizenCard
Posted by Tomasz Wiszniewski on 10 June 2014 10:33 AM

The No ID, No Sale! Campaign, run by CitizenCard, celebrates CitizenCard’s 15th anniversary by launching today (10 June 2014) a new pack featuring the new 18+ CitizenCard.  The pack contains a Statutory Tobacco Notice, window vinyl, poster, Manager’s Guide, refusals register, CitizenCard application forms and dispenser, and a new message aimed at young adults likely to be asked for ID – ‘it’s not personal, it’s the law’.

No ID, No Sale! campaign co-ordinator Andrew Chevis explains:

“Shop staff have an essential job preventing attempts by under-18s to buy alcohol, tobacco and other age-restricted goods. The new message is displayed on the materials so that the customer understands that they are not being targeted when asked for ID.”

James Lowman, ACS Chief Executive welcomed the new message:

“ACS members take their due diligence on underage sales very seriously, and this new pack provides useful tools to help staff on the front line comply with the law. Customers understand that ID checks are not personal whereas the penalties for illegal sales are very personal.”

Paul Baxter, NFRN Chief Executive, added:

“The new pack is a vital tool in helping newsagents to demonstrate their responsibility in preventing underage sales. Sadly some of our members have been subject to abuse or worse when asking for ID, whereas those selling tobacco illegally face no such threats.”

Packs are available free of charge to ACS, NFRN, SGF members and other independent retailers from the campaign website noidnosale.com and items such as the Manager’s Guide and Refusals Register can be downloaded from the site.

Paul Goggins MP
Posted by Tomasz Wiszniewski on 08 January 2014 01:22 PM

We are very sad to learn today (Wednesday 8 January 2014) of the death of former Northern Ireland and Home Office Minister Paul Goggins, MP for Manchester Wythenshawe & Sale East. A good ally both of CitizenCard and the 'No ID, No Sale!' campaign.  The Prime Minister this morning said Paul was 'kind and brilliant'. The Leader of the Opposition replied that the Labour Party had lost 'one of its best'. We offer Paul's wife, his three children and his friends and constituents our sincere condolences.
